Regatta around Lake Geneva
The regatta around Lake Geneva (also Lake Geneva Regatta , Lake Geneva Tour , French Tour du lac or Tour du Léman à l'Aviron ) is a rowing regatta on Lake Geneva in Switzerland . It has been organized every year since 1972 at the end of September by the Geneva yacht club Société Nautique de Genève (SNG) for controlled foursomes. The route leads from the starting point in Geneva around Lake Geneva and, with a length of approx. 160 kilometers, is one of the longest rowing regattas in the world.
Routing
The starting point of the regatta is the pier of the yacht club Société Nautique de Genève . The route traditionally leads on the lake side, which belongs to Switzerland, via the cities of Nyon , Lausanne , Vevey and Montreux to the other end of the lake to Villeneuve . Then the boats row back to Geneva on the French seaside via Le Bouveret , Évian-les-Bains and Yvoire . There, the start line in front of the SNG also forms the finish line. Due to adverse external conditions, the route was changed at short notice in a few years or the route was shortened. For safety reasons, every rowing boat is accompanied by a motor boat during the regatta.
Records
- The team from RC Hamm / Karlsruhe Rheinklub Alemania / Mainzer RV / Stuttgart-Cannstatter RC holds the course record over the entire course of the race. In 2011, the team won in a time of 11 hours 43 minutes and 30 seconds.
- With his 33rd participation in 2014, Matthias Decker from Ludwigshafen RV is the rower who has most often participated in the regatta around Lake Geneva.
- In 2012 Christian Klandt from the Bonn rowing club completed the regatta alone in the rowing one and reached the finish in Geneva after 14 hours and 27 minutes.
