The Szeged regatta course is an artificial lake in the west of the Hungarian city of Szeged , which has been used as a regatta course for canoeing and rowing since 1981 . The plant is also known as Maty-ér .

history

The regatta course opened in June 1981 after work began in 1979. It is located in the west of Szeged and is only seven kilometers from the Serbian and 19 kilometers from the Romanian border. The international airport Szegeds ( ICAO code LHUD ) borders almost immediately to the east of the area of the regatta course.

In 1998, 2006 and 2011 world championships in canoe racing were held in Szeged . In 2011, Vichy was initially planned as a competition site, but the damming of the Allier River , and thus also appropriate conditions, could not be ensured. Therefore, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) reissued the world championships and chose the Szeged regatta course as an alternative.

The facility was previously called Graf-István-Széchenyi -Ruderstrecke ( Hungarian: Gróf Széchenyi István evezospálya ) and is part of the Olympic base ( Hungarian: Nemzeti Kajak-kenu és Evezos Olimpiai Központ ) Szeged.

properties

The route available for regattas is 2400 m in length and 122 m in width. Next to it is a parallel canal for training trips, the banks of which are provided with bays .

Eight to nine lanes can be divided into competitions with an Albano system .

The partially covered grandstand in the finish area was temporarily expanded on the occasion of the canoe racing world championships in 2011 , so that a capacity of 11,000 seats was achieved at this event.
