Government formation, program

The first government of Jan Syrový, which in Czech sources is (only very) occasionally called "Vláda obrany republiky" (Government of the Defense of the Republic), arose in a crisis situation that was explosive for Czechoslovakia, which ultimately led to the temporary dissolution of the sovereign state. The affairs of state were entrusted to a general who until then was considered a kind of national hero.

  • September 29, 1938 - the Munich Agreement is signed
  • September 30, 1938 - the agreement is accepted by Czechoslovakia

  • October 4th, 1938 - Jan Syrový's first government is followed by Jan Syrový II's government (it is the first government of the new Czecho-Slovakia state after the separation of the Sudetenland and some other areas)

In March 1939 the country was occupied and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was proclaimed .
