Viliam Široký II government
The term of office of the second government of Viliam Široký in Czechoslovakia , led by Prime Minister Viliam Široký , ran from December 12, 1954 to July 11, 1960. It replaced the Viliam Široký I government and was replaced by the Viliam Široký III government .
Government formation, program
The outstanding event during the term of office of the government of Viliam Široký II was the XX. CPSU party conference in February 1956, at which Nikita Khrushchev announced the personality cult and the crimes of Joseph Stalin . The Czechoslovak communists feared an open discussion of this problem and hesitated for a long time to submit a strictly internal report. This was finally presented by Viliam Široký, one of the most important protagonists of communist terror in Czechoslovakia, who was part of the five-person delegation in Moscow. The consequences were correspondingly minor: Interior Minister Alexej Čepička became a " pawn " and had to resign from all his functions on April 25, 1956. The unrest in the student body, in the trade unions, some bloc parties and among the writers was nipped in the bud by an anti-revisionist campaign launched immediately by the regime.
On July 11, 1960, the new constitution prepared during the reign of Viliam Široký II came into force and the Viliam Široký III government was established.
