Government of the State of Palestine from June 2014

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The June 2014 government of the State of Palestine was formed on June 2, 2014 following talks between Fatah and Hamas about a unity government.

Government formation

Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation pact in Gaza on April 23, 2014 and agreed to form a joint unity government within five weeks. Presidential and parliamentary elections should be held by the end of the year. Israel responded to this agreement by suspending negotiations on the resumption of peace negotiations.

The previous Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was commissioned by President Mahmoud Abbas to form a cabinet made up of independent experts from both political currents. However, the formation of the government was boycotted by Israel. The authorities refused to allow three ministers to be sworn in from the Gaza Strip to enter the West Bank .
