resignation
On March 7, 2009, the Fayyad-led government resigned to pave the way for a unity government with the participation of Fatah and Hamas. President Mahmoud Abbas asked Fayyad to remain in office during the negotiations. After five rounds of such negotiations brokered by Egypt failed, Fayyad was once again entrusted with the post of prime minister by Abbas on May 19, the government reorganized and expanded to include 20 ministers. This new government was sworn in on May 19, 2009 and, according to Hamas, has no legitimacy.
