The Palestinian Authority government was formed by Prime Minister Ismail Haniyya on March 17, 2007 . After the government reshuffle, the cabinet consisted of members from Hamas , Fatah and members of other parties, as well as independents. Because of the cooperation between the two large, rival factions, Hamas and Fatah, this government was also known as the government of national unity .

Prime Minister Haniyya was dismissed by President Mahmud Abbas on June 14, 2007 and the government was dissolved. Salam Fayyad , whose emergency cabinet was sworn in on June 17, 2007 , was appointed as his successor .

The Haniyya II government then continued its official business until 2014 in the Gaza Strip , which was ruled by Hamas after the battle for Gaza .
