Regional agency for the Friulian language
Agjenzie Regjonâl pe Lenghe Furlane - ARLeF (Regional Agency for the Friulian Language ) is the auxiliary body of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia , which coordinates the activities to protect and promote the Friulian language in the region.
goals and tasks
The agency plays a central role in the implementation of the legislation on the Friulian language.
The agency is a regional body under public law with administrative and financial autonomy and part of the unified civil service of Friuli Venezia Giulia . It was established by a regional law from 2001 and started its activity in 2005.
The agency provides linguistic advice to public and private institutions and companies and implements numerous measures to promote the presence and use of the Friulian language in the most important areas of social life, such as: B. Family, school, mass media, new technologies, public administration, scientific research, theater and art, culture and the world of work.
The agency carries out its tasks through direct activities, grants to public or specially qualified private bodies, forms of cooperation with public and private bodies concerned with the knowledge, dissemination and use of the Friulian language, and through the awarding of grants.
Regional language center for the Friulian language
Via the Regional Language Center for the Friulian Language, ARLeF offers toponymy and language advice services , written translations, information and guidance on the Friulian language. This range of services is aimed at all local authorities, auxiliary bodies and concessionaires of public services in the area of responsibility. The service can also be used by private individuals if this is in line with regional language policy guidelines. The center has a head office and four branch offices that cover the entire Friulian-speaking area.

Family, children and school
Crescere con più lingue (Growing up with several languages) - a project that was implemented together with the health authorities of the Friulian-speaking area with the main aim of sensitizing young parents to the various cognitive and metacognitive advantages of a multilingual upbringing. The project is also intended to reduce prejudices that can still influence a decision by families in favor of multilingual education. Finally, the Crescere con più lingue project promotes the cultural and linguistic characteristics of the region and its “natural multilingualism”.
Mom! - The first television program for children in Friulian only. ARLeF has also created a Friulian version of several cartoon films, including Omenuts, Tui e Tuie and Rite e Cjossul . The homepage also has an area for children with educational games.
Pavee. La magjie dal furlan (Pavee. Fieste de Patrie dal Friûl (Festival of the Homeland of Friuli)
Since 2015, ARLeF has been supporting the official celebrations and side events that take place on April 3 every year to commemorate the founding of the patriarchal state of Friuli on April 3, 1077.
Teatri Stabil Furlan (Friulian Theater)

A traveling exhibition that presents the concept of Friulian identity, explains the socio-cultural context in which the language evolved and illustrates the language policy strategies in the Friulian language area.
Promoting the language
Al dipent di nô (It depends on us) - an institutional information and awareness campaign for the conscious and daily use of the Friulian language. The project is divided into several phases and uses several media channels with the aim of reaching the population of Friuli, especially children and young people, and encouraging them to actively promote Friuli.

ARLeF supports the promotion of the Friulian language in the fields of publishing, entertainment and scientific research by granting funds, which are awarded in the context of a corresponding call for tenders to public and private institutions for the implementation of specific projects, including:
- Suns Europe: European festival for performing arts in minority languages
- Docuscuele: “Center for Documentation, Research and Didactic Experiments for the Friulian School” for networking projects and competencies in the field of Friulian didactics
- Lenghis-Ladint: a didactic IT tool used for Friulian didactics in a multilingual context, containing both a digital library and an extensive practice laboratory
- INT / ART: Documentation series about young artists and creatives who use the Friulian language in their artistic production
- the films Missus and Predis about the struggle of the Friulian priests for the recognition of the Friulian language.

Cooperations exist with important Friulian companies in the context of activities such as a. the translation of information and advertising material, the organization of joint events, the implementation of multilingual information campaigns. ID-COOP - Identity and cooperative system in the settlement area of historical language minorities : Promotion of the connection between the cooperative system and historical language minorities in the border areas involved in the project to improve competitiveness
RUSH - Lingue minoritarie e orizzonti plurilingui (minority languages and multilingual horizons): cooperation between schools and institutions in Italy , Croatia and Spain (regions with significant language minorities) to develop a didactic guide (using the official and minority languages of the regions involved in the project) and to set up a center for the collection and documentation of learning and teaching material for the dissemination and exchange of multilingual learning and teaching material
Eumint (Euroregions, Migration and Integration): Project to strengthen the institutional cross-border cooperation between Italy and Austria in the regions of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano , the states of Tyrol and Carinthia with the aim of better coping with migration related social and cultural challenges as well as promotion of integration measures in the border areas.
ARLeF is part of the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity (NPLD), the pan-European network for language policy and planning, an operational platform to support and protect minority and regional languages across Europe.
