Germany's first electric bus route in Oberstdorf local traffic
In 1992, the first permanently operated battery bus line in Germany went into operation as part of the "Car-Free Oberstdorf " project . For five years, as part of a research project, Metroliner buses in carbon design (MIC) from the Neoplan company were used between the reception parking lots and the town center. Nickel-cadmium batteries were used in the vehicles. After the test phase was completed in 1997, the battery buses were exchanged for hybrid buses .
