Their German father immigrated to the United States after World War I and now runs a bakery in a small town in New Jersey . The elder son Rudy Jordache rises from these simple circumstances from a student of law to a senator in the US Senate . The younger brother Tom Jordache is the black sheep of the family and is driven into exile after being arson. He rose to be a boxer , but was repeatedly involved in criminal activities. He clashes with the ingenious gangster Anthony Falconetti, who eventually murders him and later also tries to kill Rudy.
