ALSTOM Stendal (formerly Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk Stendal , short: RAW / Raw Stendal ) is a repair shop in the city of Stendal . It is located in the east of the city, east of Nachtigalplatz.

Since the partial takeover by Alstom in 2002, diesel locomotives have been repaired here and older mainline locomotives modernized.

history

Before the completion of the new main station in 1872, the first Stendal station was located on the site of the repair shop . At that time the trains were still driving east of the city.

In 1873 the Magdeburg-Halberstädter Eisenbahngesellschaft (MHE) opened the repair shop with a workforce of 170 skilled workers. In 1881 the workshop was nationalized with the railway company, assigned to the Royal Railway Directorate in Hanover and was now called the “main workshop”. The number of skilled workers rose to around 1,000 in 1911 and was already 2,400 in 1920. The main workshop was renamed Reichsbahn ausbesserungswerk (RAW) in 1924.

In addition to the repair and general overhaul of steam locomotives for passenger and freight transport , innovative coal dust steam locomotives (or coal dust condensers for short) were also developed. In 1949 the first locomotive with pulverized coal combustion was completed.

From 1975 the first hydraulic diesel locomotives were repaired and up to 300 general inspections and repairs were carried out on class 110 diesel locomotives every year .

With the rail reform , Deutsche Bahn AG took over the plant. As a result of the company's restructuring, the Stendal plant was assigned to DB Regio in 1998 and has since been responsible for the maintenance of locomotives and multiple units for local rail transport .

Since 2002 the plant has belonged to the joint venture ALSTOM Lokomotiven Service GmbH founded by Alstom AG and DB AG . It has been 100% owned by Alstom since May 2012.

Awards

By 1965, the plant received the hiking flag of all Raw seven times . Since 1952 there were members of the People's Chamber who worked in the Raw Stendal. The work received the Order of the Labor Banner in 1963 .
