Life

Reiner Arntz was born in Beckum, Westphalia, in 1943. After graduating from high school in Essen in 1962, he began studying Romance , Slavic and Law in 1962 . Since the then strongly literary orientation of most philological courses was not his thing, he switched to the interpreting institute at Saarland University just a year later . In 1965 he passed the examination to become a qualified translator in Spanish and French , supplemented by law . Although Reiner Arntz took on his first teaching duties in Portuguese and Spanish in 1965 and took up his first teaching position in Dutch and Spanish in 1968 , he consistently continued his law studies.

After he had passed his state examination, he did his doctorate with the thesis "The Law of the Portuguese Overseas Territories". After completing his legal traineeship, he passed the second state examination in 1973. In March 1980, Reiner Arntz was appointed to a C4 professorship for Romance Linguistics at the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences, where he set up the first German graduate specialist translator course. From 1984 to 1992 he was dean of the "Languages and Technology" department at the University of Hildesheim. From 2001 to 2007 he headed the Institute for Applied Linguistics at the University of Hildesheim; he retired in 2008. Between 1992 and 1996 he headed the "Language and Law" department at the European Academy in Bolzano . During this time he was also involved in setting up the “Ethnic Minorities and Regional Autonomies” department and was involved in the preparatory work for the establishment of the Free University of Bolzano . Between 1996 and 1997 Reiner Arntz was a guest lecturer for specialist communication and specialist language pedagogy at the Economic University of Denmark-South. In 2004 Reiner Arntz was able to work part-time as academic director of the foreign language center of the universities in the state of Bremen. Until April 2007 he remained director of the Institute for Applied Linguistics at the University of Hildesheim and until August 2008 scientific director of the foreign language center of the universities in the state of Bremen . The last place of his scientific career was a guest lecturer position at the University of Sakarya in Turkey.
