Pure cilkenat

Reiner Zilkenat (born May 20, 1950 - February 26, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German historian .

Life

Reiner Zilkenat studied history and political science at the Free University of Berlin from 1970 to 1976 . In 1981, together with Peter Brandt , he published an accompanying source volume on the social history of Prussia ("Preußen-Lesebuch") as part of the much-discussed West Berlin exhibition Prussia - An Attempt at a Balance Sheet . He was a member of the Socialist Unity Party of West Berlin and an employee of its theory magazine Konsequent . Zilkenat received his doctorate in 1989 at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED in East Berlin with a thesis on the Berlin metal workers' strike in 1930.

His research focused on the history of the German labor movement as well as the final phase of the Weimar Republic and the rise of the NSDAP . From 2001 onwards, Zilkenat was the editor of the “circular of the Federal Working Group on Right-Wing Extremism / Antifascism on the board of the Left Party ”. He was a member of the Archives and Libraries Association for the History of the Labor Movement and was its chairman from 2011 to 2018.

Zilkenat was one of the regular authors of the Marxist-oriented media RotFuchs , Z. Magazine for Marxist Renewal and Young World .
