The family settled in the area of the then independent community of Frankenfelde near Luckenwalde , where Anders started school and attended elementary school until 1953. He then switched to the recently founded children's and youth sports school in Luckenwalde, later to the KJS Brandenburg , where he also passed his Abitur in 1959. After completing the mandatory assistantship in 1965, he took over the state veterinary practice in Meinsdorf in the Jüterbog district at the beginning of 1966 . During his compulsory assistantship, Anders joined the GDR bloc party CDU . With the dissertation Relationship between body measurements, first calving age and the performance of RL cows in the Potsdam district , he was awarded a Dr. med. vet. PhD at the University of Leipzig. After obtaining this title, Anders was a veterinarian for many years for pig production at the Jüterbog district council and looked after various cattle and pig breeding facilities in the Jüterbog district. Until the political turnaround in 1989 in the GDR, the then 49-year-old veterinarian was a candidate for the first free Volkskammer elections on March 18, 1990 in the Potsdam constituency. Since the CDU was able to win 8 seats in this constituency, Anders moved into the last GDR parliament with his 6th place on the list.
