Reinhard Brandner (born August 24, 1938 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ), known as "Der Lichtfänger", is an Austrian painter, graphic artist and sculptor.

Life

Reinhard Brandner grew up as the fifth of seven children in Klagenfurt, Austria. From 1958 to 1962 he attended the Famous Artists School Amsterdam, from which he graduated with a diploma in graphics and painting. He then returned to Klagenfurt, where he still lives today and has been working as a freelance artist since 1963. He spends his summers in Greece.

family

Reinhard Brandner is married and has four children, including Klaus Brandner and Enzo Brandner . His father Erich was an architect, his grandfather was Field Marshal Adam Brandner Edler von Wolfszahn .

Works

painting

Reinhard Brandner's paintings are mostly relief mixing techniques with natural materials that come from his travels. His main motifs are nature, mountains, sun and sea. The combination of brightness and darkness, illusion and reality as well as color and light led the art critic Manfred Posch to call him “The Light Catcher” from 1985 - an artist name that Brandner still bears today and that is registered as a brand name with the Austrian Patent Office .

Works by him are among others in the possession of the Federal Ministry of Culture Vienna (since 1979).

graphic

Reinhard Brandner has further developed the graphic technique of screen printing , from which "manugraphy" arose. This technique can only be worked by hand and not by machine. 30 to 40 prints are required for each sheet. By injecting dilution directly into the screen, color resolutions are created during printing that differ from other printing techniques. The artist produces a maximum of 99 pieces of each work made using this technique.

Country Art

Reinhard Brandner has been involved in Land Art projects since 2004 .

In 2005 the work Reloj del sol was created in the Los Cardones sculpture garden of the Gernot Huber Foundation on Tenerife. It is the largest horizontal sundial in Europe, which the artist made exclusively from natural materials from the island.

The sun protection indicator in the Klagenfurt am Wörthersee lido dates back to 2008 and is intended to make bathers aware of the need to protect their skin from the sun.

In the Sonnenpark in St. Veit an der Glan, Brandner took on the artistic design of Austria's largest horizontal sundial (2011) and the Sonnentor (2014).
