Reinhard Loew

Reinhard Löw (born February 15, 1949 in Freising ; † August 25, 1994 in Nuremberg ) was a German philosopher , natural scientist and chemical historian .

Life

After studying mathematics , pharmacy , philosophy and history , Reinhard Löw took the state examination in pharmacy in 1973 . 1977 doctorate he became Dr. rer. nat. on the subject of the history of plant chemistry from 1790 to 1820 . In the same year he became a research assistant at the Institute for Philosophy at the University of Munich .

This was followed in 1978 by a further doctorate in philosophy ( Dr. phil. ) With Robert Spaemann in Munich , whose scientific assistant Löw was in Munich from 1977 to 1984. 1983 Löw completed his habilitation in philosophy.

Löw taught natural philosophy from 1984 to 1987 as a professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and since 1987 was the founding director of the Research Institute for Philosophy in Hanover, which is supported by the Catholic Church . In the winter semester of 1992/93, Löw represented Chair I for Philosophy at LMU Munich.

Reinhard Löw received the Partington Prize in London for the history of science in 1978 . In 1985 he was awarded the International Prize for Anthropology, Barcelona.

Reinhard Löw died in August 1994 shortly after completing the manuscript Die neue Gottesbeweise . In the obituary of the Süddeutsche Zeitung it is said: "The work that he leaves behind does not show the features of youthful incompleteness, but the signs of a ripe harvest. His will to work and the sharpness of his intellect, which did not shrink from polemics and sarcasm, led Reinhard Löw on an early eruption of creativity that astonished those around him.
