Live and act

From 1878 to 1883, Strecker studied natural sciences, cultural engineering and agriculture at the Agricultural Academy in Bonn-Poppelsdorf , then moved to the Agricultural Institute of the University of Göttingen , where he wrote a dissertation on nitrogen enrichment in the soil when growing legumes under the aegis of Gustav Drechsler 1886 Dr. phil. received his doctorate.

After several years as a lecturer for agricultural machinery and land improvement at the University of Göttingen, Strecker took over the management of a special commission for regional culture in Witzenhausen in 1890 . In 1895 he was appointed professor for agricultural machinery and melioration at the University of Leipzig . His teaching assignment here covered the entire field of agricultural engineering , cultural engineering , agricultural soil science and grassland theory . For over 30 years he was one of the most successful teachers in agriculture at the University of Leipzig. In 1927 he retired.

Throughout his life, Strecker taught and researched according to the principle that science must serve practice. His numerous publications also served this goal, especially the books on grassland theory, meadow plants, soil science and agricultural machinery and equipment, some of which appeared in several editions. In addition, Strecker wrote over 100 reports on agricultural machinery testing. For many years he headed the machine test center of the Saxon State Culture Council.

In 1918, Strecker was appointed Hofrat by the Saxon government. Colleagues and students honored him on the occasion of his 70th birthday with a festschrift.
