Reinhard Schmidt (business economist)

Reinhard H. Schmidt (* 1946 ) is a German business economist and has been a professor for international banking and finance at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main since 1998 .

Life

Schmidt studied economics and business administration in Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main and graduated in 1971 with a degree in business administration. In 1974 he received his doctorate in Frankfurt with the text Aspects of Positive Theories about Stock Price Changes - A Comparative Study of Fundamental Analysis of Technical Analysis and he Random Walk Thesis and completed a year as a research fellow at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University .

From 1977 to 1981 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Frankfurt. During this work , Schmidt completed his habilitation in 1979 with the work The role of information and institutions in financial markets . From 1981 to 1983 he taught corporate finance at the University of Göttingen . From 1983 to 1991 he held the chair for business administration, especially business finance, at the University of Trier . During this time he worked from 1989 to 1990 as a Konrad Adenauer visiting professor at Georgetown University in Washington.

Since 1991 he has been Wilhelm Merton Professor for Business Administration at the University of Frankfurt am Main, where he represented the subject of economics of world trade until 1998. After a rejected call to the University of Bochum, the dedication of his professorship was changed to "International Banking and Finance". From 2001 to 2003 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics. In 2009 the University of Applied Sciences for Business Management (WHU) in Vallendar awarded him the degree of Dr. hc 2012 he retired and has been active as a senior professor in research and teaching ever since. From 2015 to 2018 he was visiting professor at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. Schmid was visiting professor at Georgetown University in Washington DC, at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia , at Bocconi University in Milan and three times at various universities in Paris.

Schmidt also teaches courses in the Executive Master's programs at the Goethe Business School .

In addition to his work as a university lecturer, Schmidt worked as a consultant in the field of development finance, including as chairman of the supervisory board of the development-oriented investment company ProCredit Holding AG.
