Political positions

Veser takes a decidedly conservative position, particularly clearly in his area of Eastern European politics. The transatlantic security partnership is the foundation of German foreign policy.

Ukraine crisis and media criticism

Veser considers the main features of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to be clearly recognizable, beyond all justified demands for the representation of the "gray tones". The Ukrainian President Yanukovich, as a "corrupt and authoritarian ruler", tried to crush the initially peaceful mass protests on the Maidan by force. After his overthrow, the equally authoritarian Russia, which had supported him and had "urged him to crack down on the demonstrators," occupied part of the country and "started" a war with thousands of dead. Veser criticizes that the German debate about Ukraine and Russia was marked from the beginning by an "oppressive inability (or unwillingness)" to "distinguish black and white, right from wrong". This "denial of reality" was accompanied by insulting the media as one-sided, biased and anti-Russian. The criticism of the media coverage of the Ukraine crisis in the publication "Wir sind die Guten" by Mathias Bröckers and Paul Schreyer was described by Veser as an absurd conspiracy theory surrounding the American think tank Atlantic Council and "racist esotericism".
