Reinhart Schmidt (business economist)

Reinhart Schmidt (born February 15, 1940 in Halle (Saale) ; † April 5, 2008 ibid) was a German professor of business administration , in particular banking and finance .

Life

Schmidt completed his studies at the University of Cologne in 1963 with a degree in business administration. In 1967 the doctorate followed, in 1971 the habilitation at the University of Bonn . From 1969 to 1972 he was a management consultant in Essen. From 1972 to 1994 he was a full professor for business administration at the University of Kiel . From 1994 until his retirement on March 31, 2005, he was full professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg . He specialized in empirical capital market research, company analysis, rating, stock valuation, early warning systems (balance sheet data, account data), cross-border mergers, corporate governance (innovation, management board remuneration, personnel and capital links). In order to bring students, practitioners and investors closer to investment decisions on the stock exchanges, he invented internationally oriented stock market games, which he organized and carried out several times during his time in Kiel (KIES - Kieler EntwicklungSpiel) and then also in Halle (Saale). In addition, Schmidt carried out regular empirical studies on the topics of "Pay for Performance" and "Value Creation" by German and European joint-stock companies in cooperation with Manager Magazin .

Others

In memory of his work as a university professor at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, the Reinhart Schmidt Memorial Prize has been awarded for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of business administration since 2010 . The first prize winner in November 2010 was Enrico Prinz.
