Reinhold Bernhardt (born January 25, 1957 in Frischborn , Upper Hesse) has been Professor of Systematic Theology / Dogmatics at the University of Basel since 2001 and is currently (08/2018 to 07/2020) Dean of the Faculty.

Life

In 1989 Bernhardt received his doctorate from the theological faculty in Heidelberg . From 1991 to 1996 he was director of studies at the Ecumenical Institute and student residence at Heidelberg University . From 1996 to 1998 he received a habilitation grant from the DFG . During this time (fall 1997) a visiting professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville , Tennessee fell . He received his habilitation at the theological faculty in Heidelberg in 1998 . In the winter semester 2000/01 he was appointed to the chair for systematic theology at the University of Osnabrück , but then went to Basel. From 2004 to 2017 he was editor of the Theologische Zeitschrift , from 10/2006 to 07/2008 he headed the dean's office of the faculty.

The main focus of his work is the theology of religions, but also the “action of God” ( doctrine of providence ) and basic questions of the relationship between theology and natural science. He works on topics of theology dealing with non-theological approaches and discussions, as well as in relation to non-Christian religions.

Bernhardt is editor of the series Contributions to a Theology of Religions and co-editor of the series: Scientia & Religio and Studies on Systematic Theology and Ethics . He has lectured at the Escola Superior de Teologia in São Leopoldo and at the Universities of Glasgow and Bern , at various universities and seminars in Iran and at the United Theological Seminary in Bangalore, India. From 2014 to 2018 Bernhardt headed a CPCE working group on the topic of religious plurality in Europe , from which a study document under the same title emerged.
