Reinhold Heegn

Josef Reinhold Heegn , also Reinhold Hegna (born June 22, 1875 in Versec , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary , † January 2, 1925 in Vrsac , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) was a political leader of the Danube Swabians in Vojvodina .

Life

Heegn was an engineer by profession. As a politician, Heegn was one of the most active national supporters of the first chairman of the Hungarian German People's Party , Ludwig Kremling . After the First World War , Heegn advocated the undivided annexation of the Banat to southern Slavia , primarily representing the positions of the German-born residents of Grossbetschkerek , Werschetz and Panschowa in the western Banat. During the Serbian occupation of the Banat, from February 17 to July 20, 1919, he was appointed chief provost of the city of Temesvár , which was still part of the Kingdom of Hungary . From the Serbian side he had received the promise of founding a German university in the city, should the Banat Swabians agree to join southern Slavia.
