Life

Rem Solouchin was born into a family of teachers. He graduated from Moscow State University in physics in 1953 and received his Ph.D. in 1957. In 1967 Solouchin set up the International Committee on Gas Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems together with Antoni Kazimierz Oppenheim and Manson Numa . He taught at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology from 1958 to 1959 . He became a professor at the Novosibirsk State University in 1965 , the first dean of the faculty of physics and prorector (1962-1967). From 1971 to 1976 he headed the Institute for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Novosibirsk ( Институт теоретической и прикладной механики , ITAM).

From 1976 he lived and worked in Minsk . There he was director of the Institute for Heat and Mass Transfer ( Институт тепло- и массообмена , ITMO) until 1987 .

Rem Solouchin studied the physics of combustion, explosion, and shock waves . He was also interested in gas dynamics and is the author of more than 400 scientific papers.

Solouchin was awarded the Order of the October Revolution in 1980 , the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1967 and the Badge of Honor of the Soviet Union in 1961 . In his honor, the Novosibirsk State University established a student scholarship named after him. The Institute for the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems has presented the RI Solokhin Award every two years since 1989 to scientists who have made a special contribution in the field of dynamics of explosions and reactive systems.
