Remigius Geyling

Remigius Geyling (born June 29, 1878 in Vienna , † March 4, 1974 ibid) was an Austrian painter, illustrator and set designer .

Life

Remigius Geyling was a son of the history painter Rudolf Geyling (1839–1904) and the great-nephew of Carl Geyling . From 1909 to 1911 and from 1922 to 1945 he was head of equipment at the Burgtheater in Vienna and inventor of stage projection. This was first used in 1925 in “ Peer Gynt ” at the Burgtheater. Geyling also designed various advertising leaflets and publications for Österreichischer Lloyd , including the commemorative publication for its 75th anniversary in 1911.

During the First World War he was first lieutenant on the Isonzo front and in 1916 designed the Church of the Holy Spirit on the Javorca as a memorial to the fallen Austro-Hungarian soldiers.

Around 1920 he also made designs for the family's own glass painting workshop, he was a founding member of the Austrian Werkbund and from 1926 to 1946 professor at the Vienna School of Applied Arts .
