biography
Carl Geyling was the son of the court decoration painter Andreas Geyling and his second wife Barbara Laimer. His older brother was the painter Josef Geyling . He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and initially worked as a landscape painter. In 1839 he traveled to Italy.
After his return, Geyling was commissioned to replace the panes of older glass doors in Laxenburg Castle with new landscapes on glass. That is why he began to deal with stained glass and made numerous attempts in a technique that by then had already been half forgotten. From this occupation the glass painting company Geyling emerged in 1841 in the so-called Geylinghaus in Windmühlgasse 28, which became famous beyond the borders of Austria. Geyling received a medal in 1843 for the production of Mousselin and lace glass. As a result, he created numerous stained glass windows in churches and public buildings. A friend and colleague of Geyling was the painter Franz Josef Dobiaschofsky , who lived in the same house.
Carl Geyling was buried in the Ober Sankt Veiter cemetery .
In 1907 the Geylinggasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him. Part of his estate is exhibited in the Mariahilf Glass Museum.
