ZDF-History ( English for ZDF-Geschichte ) is a weekly television program that has been broadcast on ZDF on late Sunday evening since October 29, 2000 . The program focuses on contemporary history and history . The key moderator of the show was Guido Knopp , the former head of ZDF's Zeitgeschichte editorial team, who ran the series together with Annette Tewes . On February 3, 2013, Guido Knopp moderated ZDF History for the last time with the contribution " Goodbye Guido Knopp - 30 Years of Contemporary History ".
According to ZDF, the mostly 45-minute productions cost an average of around 60,000 euros.

The magazine was expanded from an initial length of 30 minutes in 2003 to its current length of 45 minutes. Since the beginning of the broadcast, ZDF-History has cooperated with the American History Channel . The programs are now regularly repeated on 3sat , ZDFinfo and Phoenix .
Topics and presentation
The spectrum of topics ranges from political history with a focus on contemporary history (especially the time of National Socialism and post-war history ) through cultural-historical topics ("The greatest lies in history", "Myth of Lili Marleen ") to social history ("The Germans in the 20th Century") , "Hello Fräulein - Forbidden love between winners and vanquished", "The great criminal cases"). In 2008, in cooperation with the BBC , the magazine produced a documentary dealing with the collapse of World Trade Center 7 on September 11, 2001 . In addition, the program deals with antiquity ("The Pyramids of Giza ") and the search for known myths and legends ("Myth of Atlantis "). The approach is focused on events and personal history, whereby structural and mentality-historical aspects are also increasingly included.
