René-Jean Jacquet (born June 27, 1933 in Bordeaux , † July 21, 1993 in Reims ) was a French football player .

The player

René-Jean Jacquet's career is an example of an average footballer who nonetheless steps out of anonymity for a short time and then disappears from the headlines again. He started playing football in his native city; Whether he played for the Girondins de Bordeaux from the start cannot yet be determined. For this club he played for the first time in April 1954 an encounter in the French first division : he stood between the posts in the 2-2 draw against FC Nancy ; for a goalkeeper who was only 1.69 meters tall, he was actually too short for the circumstances at the time. After all, despite the competition from Pierre Bernard , he was also used this season in the four subsequent encounters in Bordeaux's first team, which was able to take a surprising third place at the end of the season. It is unclear whether he played in the Gironde or in Champagne in the following season 1954/55 ; In any case, he did not have any premier league appearances that year.

From the 1955/56 season at the latest, he was certainly under contract with Stade de Reims ; His coach Albert Batteux had brought him as the second man behind Paul Sinibaldi , of whom it was said that he actually doesn't need a deputy because he has reliably held the Rémois in all 102 league encounters in the past three seasons and won the Rémois to two championship titles and the coupe Latine had helped. But Jacquet's time came sooner than expected: Sinibaldi got into a form crisis due to an injury, and on October 13, 1955, the substitute keeper was in the goal of the red-whites for the first time. Since he was able to keep his box clean in Toulouse, Batteux continued to trust him most of the time, and Jacquet had 13 more first division matches by the end of the season. Above all, he was used in the first ever European Cup in the games against AGF Århus and Hibernian Edinburgh . Due to his achievements v. a. against the Scots (Reims played twice to zero) he was also the coach's first choice for the final against Real Madrid in Paris' Parc des Princes . Here, however, he could not prevent the 3: 4 defeat either.
Nevertheless, he became the club's final No. 1 in 1956/57, played all 34 league games and was third in the championship with Stade.

Then, however, the club brought Dominique Colonna , who immediately ousted little René Jacquet from the starting line-up and only made two appearances in Division 1 for him in the year of the Doublé (Reims was national champion and cup winner in 1958) . In the following three years he was only sporadically in the first team (a total of 26 league and one more European Cup game), and in 1959 there was only one place on the Reims substitution bench in the European Cup final . After all, he became French champion again in 1960. In 1961 Jacquet moved to the second division Lille OSC , where he played 25 of the 36 league games, but it was not enough for the Nordistes to get promoted and the club split from its goalkeeper after a year.

Where and for how long René-Jean Jacquet, who just celebrated his 29th birthday in the summer of 1962, then played and what happened to him after his active time cannot yet be determined, although he was at the top for 18 months Level had been the undisputed man with the shirt number 1.
