René Renoux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

René Marcel Renoux (born November 21, 1904 in Brest , † March 16, 2000 in La Verrière ) was a French film architect .

Live and act

Renoux came to film in 1919 as an assistant set designer and initially worked for set designers such as Jean Perrier , Robert-Jules Garnier and Henri Ménessier . In 1928, as chief architect, he was allowed to design film sets on his own for the first time. In the following four decades, Renoux was one of the most sought-after film architects, but he was mostly only used for pleasant, not too demanding entertainment products. His more important works include the sets for Fritz Lang's Molnár adaptation Liliom , Abel Gance's moral painting “ Lucrezia Borgia ” and the literary adaptations “ Topaze ” by Louis Gasnier and “ Le père Goriot ” by Robert Vernay .

Immediately after the Second World War he was able to land two great commissions with the drafts for Jean Delannoy's Gide film “ And there was light ” and the plague doctor drama Monsieur Vincent . He was then closely associated with the productions of Sacha Guitry and Henri Decoin . Delannoy had a large part of his post-war productions designed by René Renoux. Renoux's extensive designs from the 1950s for the lavish history and equipment films “ A Queen's Romance ”, Versailles - Kings and Women , The Hunchback of Notre Dame and “ Napoleon ” and some films with Jean Gabin towards the end are particularly remembered of the same decade.
