René Rohrkamp

René Rohrkamp (* 1977 in Aachen ) is a German historian and archivist .

Live and act

After graduating from high school pipe Kamp studied the subjects of history, political science and philosophy at the RWTH Aachen and received his doctorate there in 2010 with his thesis: ideologically consolidated fighters - the soldiers of the Waffen-SS 1933-1945. Rohrkamp then took on a traineeship at the Federal Archives and at the archive school in Marburg , before he was taken on as deputy head of the Belgian State Archives in Eupen in May 2012 . Two years later he returned to his hometown, where he succeeded Thomas R. Kraus as head of the Aachen City Archives .

The focus of his work lies in modern and recent history, military history, here in particular that of the Third Reich, and social history.

For his non-fiction book "Sources on the History of German-speaking Belgians in the Belgian State Archives (1919–1973)", published in Brussels in 2013 , Rohrkamp was awarded the Archival Prize of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community in 2016.
