Regina Veronica Maria (Renée) Jones-Bos (born December 20, 1952 in Oud-Beijerland ) is a Dutch civil servant and former diplomat . She was Ambassador of the Netherlands to the United States from 2008 to 2012 and is Secretary General, Chief Official, of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

education

After finishing her school career, Jones-Bos studied Italian in Perugia until 1972 . In 1976 she graduated from the University of Antwerp , Belgium, in political science, economics, Russian and English. In 1977 she graduated from the University of Sussex with a Master of Arts in Russian Studies . Jones-Bos completed diplomatic training in the Dutch Foreign Ministry until 1981.

Career

From 1977 to 1978 Jones-Bos worked as a translator and interpreter. 1979–1980 she worked as an employee of the Dutch embassy in the Soviet Union. In 1981 she joined the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Jones-Bos worked in the embassies in Dhaka ( Bangladesh ), Paramaribo ( Suriname ), Washington, DC (USA) and, after a period in the Foreign Ministry from 1990 to 1994, in Prague ( Czech Republic ). From 1998 she held positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as coordinator for the UN Security Council , special envoy for human rights and director general for regional policy and consular affairs. Jones-Bos was the Dutch Ambassador to the United States from 2008. She has been Secretary General of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2012.

Jones-Bos speaks Dutch, English, German, French, Russian and basic Italian. The Dutch feminist magazine Opzij voted her the most powerful woman in 2012.
