Renate Kordon is an Austrian visual artist . She is best known for experimental cartoons, public art , multimedia art, and drawings.

life and work

Renate Kordon studied architecture in Vienna and Graz from 1970 to 1974 and graphics at the University of Applied Arts Vienna from 1974 to 1978 . With a scholarship, she attended the animation and video class at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris in 1980/1981 . In 1982 she taught as visiting professor at the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Detroit .

Kordon works as a freelance artist with sculptures , installations , paintings and drawings . She makes animated films, creates video art and installations and works as a photographer . Her work has been shown at numerous solo and group exhibitions and as art in public spaces . Kordon is a founding member of ASIFA Austria and a member of other artists' associations such as the Vienna Secession . Numerous solo exhibitions and participation in exhibitions at home and abroad.

From 1983 to 1985 she worked on animated films, and she completed a master class with Maria Lassnig, master class for experimental design. In 1986 a Rome scholarship followed; 1990 birth of daughter Mira; 1989-98 numerous art and construction projects; 1995 Waterloo University, Ontario, Canada. Renate Kordon was a member of the KUNST UND BAU Advisory Board of the Austrian Federal Government from 1995 to 1999. In 1999 the CD-ROM "RK eg" was published; from 1999 she also specialized in steel objects. One of her best-known works in this context is the steel installation LICHTSPIEL SPIELFELD, whose whereabouts on the border between Austria and Slovenia were contested.

2007–2012 organization and curation of exhibitions at ASIFAKEIL quartier21, Museumsquartier, Vienna (with Stefan Stratil); Organization of the ASIFA TRICKPLATFORM (with Daniel Sulic); 2008 Execution of the Schottwien season sundial; Securing the continued existence of LICHTSPIEL SPIELFELD; 2008-10 teaching position “Laboratory Animation”, Art University Linz; 2010 Founding of the "Institute for TIME shift" in Graz. In 2013, the work monograph "Renate Kordon Lebenslinien" was published in the series of the Academy for Applied Art; In 2016 the publication “Tanzplatz für Ariadne” followed, 86 watercolors, which was presented as part of a personal exhibition in the Eugen Lendl Gallery, Graz.

Kordon is currently working, among other things, on a personal in the ARK KÜLTÜR gallery in Istanbul.

She lives and works in Vienna.
