Renate Steiger (theologian)

Renate Steiger b. Ackermann (* 1934 in Hamburg ; † November 19, 2006 in Heidelberg ) was a German Protestant theologian and musicologist . In essays and individual presentations, she mainly made contributions to the theological interpretation of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach .

Steiger studied theology, philosophy , mathematics and musicology in Hamburg, Tübingen , Bonn and Cologne . In 1962 she was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD . In 1973 she came to Heidelberg with her family, where she was primarily responsible for the Cusanus edition as a research assistant at the Academy of Sciences .

In 1976 Steiger founded the International Working Group for Theological Bach Research together with Walter Blankenburg ; from 1986 to 1999 she was its chairman. From 1981 to 1995 Steiger was the editor and editor of the magazine Musik und Kirche .

Renate Steiger was married to the theologian Lothar Steiger , with whom she wrote several music theological publications. Her son is the theologian Johann Anselm Steiger .
