Johann Anselm Steiger

Johann Anselm Steiger (born March 30, 1967 in Tübingen ) has been Professor of Church and Dogma History at the Department of Protestant Theology at the University of Hamburg since 2001 .

Life

Steiger was initially an assistant for practical theology in Heidelberg (1991–1996) and completed his habilitation in 1994 in the history of churches and dogmas in Leipzig . 1995–2000 he was head of the Johann Gerhard Research Center at Heidelberg University. In addition, from 1995 to 2001 he held substitute professorships in Saarbrücken , Hamburg and Oldenburg .

In 2002 he was committed to the preservation of historic Protestant church libraries.

Steiger is the son of the theologian Lothar Steiger and the theologian and musicologist Renate Steiger .

Focus of work

Steiger is particularly concerned with Lutheran theology and piety in the Baroque period and the Enlightenment . Further fields of his research are Reformation, editing, border areas between literary studies, media studies and theology, the relationship between Jews and Christians in its history and the history of the interpretation of the Bible.
