Rene Capo

Rene Capo (born May 9, 1961 in Pinar del Río , Pinar del Río , Cuba , † July 6, 2009 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American judoka .

Rene Capo grew up as the son of Cuban immigrants in Hialeah , Florida . His family came to the United States in 1962. He played from 1979 to 1982 on the football team at the University of Minnesota , where he also studied. In 1985 he finished his studies. Capo took part in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and 1996 in Atlanta .

Capo lived in Naperville , Illinois. He was married and had two sons. In 2008 he was diagnosed with lung cancer, from which he finally died in July 2009.
