Reshafim ( Hebrew רְשָׁפִים Rəschafīm , often in the English-based spelling Reshafim ) is a kibbutz three kilometers southwest of the city of Bet She'an in the regional association ʿEmeq ha-Maʿajanot .
The founders were non-religious Polish and Romanian survivors of the Holocaust, at the same time members of the socialist youth movement Ha-Shomer ha-Zaʿir . They were allocated state land in the Ashrafia area in 1948 after the Arab residents fled to Jordan from units of the Golani Brigade in May. They lived in a makeshift settlement with members of the orthodox Bnei Akiva movement that set up kibbutz Schluchot . This close collaboration between non-religious and religious Jews was unique at the time.
In the 1950s, the population of the kibbutz increased with the influx of new members of the Ha-Shomer ha-Zaʿir from Argentina, Morocco, Turkey, Egypt and Syria. From the 1960s onwards, most of the new kibbutzniks were born Israelis, but some volunteers from Europe also settled here.
Since 1990, Reshafim has undergone profound economic and social change. Privatization has gripped all parts of kibbutz life.
