Reshad Feild
Reshad Feild , real name Richard Timothy Feild (born April 15, 1934 in Hascombe , Surrey , † May 31, 2016 in Devon , England ) was a British mystic , writer and musician. He is best known for his books on a universal view of Sufism , with which he has gained a wide following in the western world.
Career
Reshad Feild was strongly influenced by the teachings of Georges I. Gurdjieff and PD Ouspensky , and he was also very interested in Tibetan Buddhism . With extensive travels through India, America and Europe, he met Tibetan lamas , North American shamans and finally to various Sufi masters, of which a sheikh of the Mevlevi - Tariqa from Konya for many years was to become his spiritual teacher. From this he was commissioned in the early 1970s to bring the ritual ceremony of the whirling dervishes , which dates back to the legendary Persian mystic Rumi (1207–1273), from Turkey to America and Europe for the first time, making it accessible to women and non-Muslims do.
Since then, Reshad Feild has provided a religion-neutral, informal approach to the “inner essence” of Sufism. In Europe, Chalice Verlag is working to keep Feild's teachings and books available. In German-speaking Europe there are about a dozen groups that meet regularly and work according to the teachings of Reshad Feild.
His literary output includes around 20 works translated into many languages. His first, the bestseller I went the way of the dervish , describes his meeting with his most important spiritual teacher, Bülent Rauf alias "Hamid", who taught Sufism along the lines of the Andalusian mystic Ibn Arabi (1165-1240).
