Respawn Entertainment, LLC is an American game development company founded by Jason West and Vince Zampella who founded the Call of Duty franchise and developed it as Infinity Ward until 2010 . The studio was acquired by Electronic Arts on December 1, 2017.

history

On March 1, 2010, Activision amended its report with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to add notification that two of its officers (Jason West and Vince Zempella) had been terminated by Infinity Ward for “breach of contract and disobedience”. Based on statements by Jason West and Vince Zempella, Activision allegedly tried to terminate them in various ways because they were invited to a dinner appointment by John Riccitiello , the managing director of competitor Electronic Arts, and received a job offer which they thankfully declined . This should have been enough for Activision to accuse them of destroying Infinity Ward from within and switching to competitor Electronic Arts.

On April 12, 2010, the Los Angeles Times reported that West and Zampella are starting a new independent game development studio called Respawn Entertainment. You signed up for the EA Partners Program to receive financial assistance. However, West and Zampella retain the right to their intellectual property that will be produced by them in the future. On July 10, 2010 it was announced that 38 of 46 Infinity Ward employees were moving to Respawn Entertainment.

Electronic Arts bought the company for $ 151 million in cash and up to $ 164 million in stock. The takeover took place on December 1, 2017.
