Resurrection ( English for resurrection ) is an American death metal band from Tampa , Florida .
history
Resurrection was founded in April 1990 by John Astl, Charles Haines, David Scott and Steve Pate. After the first demo in 1991, the band received a record deal with the German music label Nuclear Blast in 1992, on which the debut album Embalmed Existence was released in 1993. As a producer for the album you could win Scott Burns . In the run-up to the release, there were casting difficulties because the drummer Brett Macadam left the band three months before the studio date . In the short time it was not possible to find a replacement for the drummer and so the services of the then Malevolent Creation drummer Alex Marquez were used . This collaboration was conceived from the start as a one-off only for the studio recordings. Subsequently, the band worked on a second album called Forever Embalmed which was never released. The band members then began to devote more and more to other projects and Resurrection was initially discontinued. In 2004 the singer John Astl started talking to the former band members to start a comeback. The band has been working together again since 2005 and was able to negotiate a new record deal with the Massacre Records label in the same year . There the second album Mistaken for Dead was released in 2008, 15 years after the release of the debut album .
music
The band plays Florida Death Metal so typical of Florida , and they go about their work very technically. The music is in the mid-tempo range. Blast beats do not occur at all. Particularly striking is the hissing vocals of Paul Degoyler, which lies somewhere between the early vocals of Death singer Chuck Schuldiner and the vocals of John Tardy from Obituary . The use of voice samples as an intro to many of the band's songs is also unusual . These were contributed by a friend of a band member. The band got the idea of such intros after listening to confused messages on their friend's answering machine. So the song Disembodied begins with the words:
“In the beginning of time, there was darkness. While I lay resting in my mother's womb, I soon became a part of the light world, young in body, evil at heart. With little of a round, I became aware of death. I should have been executed early in life for the crimes my mind commits daily. "
The band's lyrics are critical of religion. You question the reasons for religiosity in people. The song Eyes of Blind deals with people's blindness to the suffering of their fellow human beings, while religion is sought for salvation.
