Reto Bärtschi (born June 4, 1971 in Visp ) is a contemporary Swiss artist . The main focus of his work is painting , drawing and metal sculpture .

Life

From 1974 he lived in Bützberg , where he completed an apprenticeship as a car body technician from 1987 to 1991. Until 1995 he worked as an employee in the training company Carbody Sägesser AG in Bützberg, including one year as deputy course leader in the training center in Solothurn . From 1995 to 1997 he worked in the social sector and from 1999 to 2000 completed an extra-occupational training as a painting and design therapist in Frauenfeld . From 2004 to 2005 Reto Bärtschi continued his education as an artagogue at the Agogis. Since 2000, Bärtschi has carried out individual and group exhibitions as a freelance artist in Switzerland, Italy and Germany .

He had an international exhibition in Studio 44 in Genoa in 2004. In 2008 he completed further training at the Kassel Art School with Norbert Radermacher . In 2010 he published his book “Mysterious Work-Poetry” for the exhibition of the same name. In the following year he carried out the project “Artists in Residence # 4” in Wartberg ob der Aist with the artist group BBB, Reto Bärtschi, Michael Blume and Kurt Baumann . In the same year Bärtschi's works were shown in the exhibition “worth living” in the Franz Gertsch Museum in Burgdorf . From May 22nd to November 30th, 2011, Bärtschi's project “The pink church tower and its guardians” received media attention on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Museum Attiswil. For this occasion, an art trail was created over several kilometers. Part of it was the church tower in «Retorosa» with white letters. Bärtschi explains: “In the color symbolism, pink stands for values ​​such as gentleness, affection, romance and protection: At all times people have sought protection from physical and psychological suffering in the church. In addition, with my work we can move the church of Attiswil, which stands on the edge of the village, into the center for some time. "

In 2012 the artist gave insights into his work in the open summer studio in Langenthal , together with BBBB, Bärtschi, Baumann, Blume, Bucher. This was followed by the exhibition “LECTURES” in Härkingen by Bärtschi, Baumann, Blume (BBB) ​​and in Biberist “Reto Bärtschi reflects Cuno Amiet ”. Bärtschi also designed the cover for the Oberaargau yearbook. Of personal importance for Bärtschi is a picture with the cremation ashes of his father, with which he met his death in June 2012.

Between 2002 and 2012 Reto Bärtschi also worked as an assistant for the Solothurn artist Schang Hutter .

From 2014 Reto Bärtschi pursued the project Kunst-Hof in Wangenried and in 2015 created a place by artists for artists. Here Bärtschi's work from November 2015 to March 2016 could be seen in “Reto Bärtschi meets Jakob Weder”.

Bärtschi's work is characterized by the retorosa, guards, structural images with plaster of paris all in white and filigree ink drawings with superimposed lines of text in "Schnüerlischrift", which he creates under a watchmaker's magnifying glass.
