Rheinheim is a place on the right bank of the Rhine in the southernmost Duisburg district of Mündelheim . The Düsseldorf district of Bockum joins further south . The village, which was still called Honschaft in the 17th century , was mentioned in a document as early as 1072.

At the beginning of the 13th century, 30 farms belonged to Rheinheim, some of which were located on the opposite left bank of the Rhine in today's Krefeld city area. The Gerresheim Abbey acquired a number of farms in the 13th century and set up its own court. The abbesses of the monastery transferred the administration of the court of the mayor to the knight family vom Rheinheim, a side line of the noble family of the lords of Kalkum , which was named after a house Rheinheim in Rheinheim.

Over the centuries, the village was repeatedly threatened by Rhine floods, so that more and more farms were abandoned. Only one yard is left today. Until 1929 Rheinheim belonged to the Angermund office , part of the Duchy of Berg . Administratively, the village has belonged to the Duisburg district since 1929 and has been a district in the Mündelheim district since 1975. The remnants of the Angermund office merged into the Ratingen Land office in 1929 , which in turn was renamed to Angerland office in 1950 and dissolved on January 1, 1975.

At Rheinheim there are two overhead line crossings (above-ground electrical lines) of the Rhine.
