The Rheinsteinpark is a green area in the Berlin district of Karlshorst ( Lichtenberg district ). It is named after Rheinstein Castle in Rhineland-Palatinate and derives its name from the adjacent street.

history

Until 1963 , the park was in the restricted area that had been created around the Berlin headquarters of the Soviet Army (SMAD) in 1945 . There was an open-air stage here until the early 1970s. The park had a fountain that was closed in 1999. The fountain basin now serves as a round bed (see picture).

Sculpture
Big Running

The bronze sculpture Große Laufende by the sculptor Jürgen Pansow has been located on the corner of Rheinsteinstrasse / Königswinterstrasse since 1989 .

The responsible district office had the paths in the green area renovated from October to November 2012 for around 50,000 euros . In autumn 2016, the paths and plantings were renewed again, the reason given was: “... all paths within the heavily frequented park [show] considerable damage and signs of wear. In order to eliminate the resulting accident and stumbling hazards for park visitors, the path areas in particular are currently being repaired [...] The desolate asphalt surface of the main entrance in Rheinsteinstrasse is being replaced with concrete paving . "

Brief description

Maple , acacia , birch , oak , chestnut and locust grow in the park . In the eastern area, the park offers two playgrounds , one of which is municipal property and one private. The playground in the area of responsibility of the district was redesigned at the end of 2015 / beginning of 2016, taking into account children's wishes at a nearby daycare center. They introduced their ideas for the redesign of the playground in a large handicraft campaign as a preliminary planning work for the toddler area.

The Rheingoldstrasse is interrupted between Rheinsteinstrasse and Andernacher Strasse. It leads from north to south as a footpath through the middle of the park.
