Riadh Chninni (born March 15, 1997 ) is a Tunisian athlete who specializes in the 800-meter run .

Athletic career

Riadh Chninni first took part in the U18 World Championships in Donetsk in 2013 in an international race over 800 meters. He ran a time of 1: 58.77 minutes, which meant he was eliminated as eighth of his run. By 2016 he improved his time by more than ten seconds to 1: 47.11 minutes, which he ran in the semifinals of the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz. In the final a day later, he was just behind this time and finished in sixth place. Over 1500 meters he was eliminated in the lead. Before that, he won gold in May at the Junior Arab Athletics Championships in Algeria, in addition to the 800 and 1500 meters. At the U23 Mediterranean Games in his Tunisian homeland, he won the silver medal over 800 meters and gold with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In May 2017, Chninni won the silver medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku with a personal best of 1: 46.24 minutes. Two months later he won the bronze medal at the Francophonie Games in Ivory Coast. At the beginning of June 2018 he took part in the U23 Mediterranean Games for the second time. He won over 800 meters and again with the season 2 silver medals. In the same month he took part in the adult Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain. He made it into the final, in which he finished eighth with 1: 50.51 minutes. He then started at the African Championships in Nigeria over 800 meters. There, too, he made it into the final, in which he ended up in last place. At the beginning of 2019, Chninni took part in his first competitions in the hall. In February he ran an indoor record in 1: 48.30 minutes in Ostrava. After running times near his best over the course of the season, he took part in the Africa Games in Rabat in August . After surviving the preliminary run, he failed as fifth in his semi-final run just to make it into the final.
