ri bo che

The Riwoche Monastery (Tib. Ri bo che ) in the large community of Riwoqê in the district of Riwoqê in the Tibetan city of Qamdo , is located in northeast Tibet on the upper reaches of the Mekong ( Lancang Jiang ). It is an important monastery of the Taglung Kagyu School from the Kagyu school tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the most important monasteries in the Kham area .

The monastery was founded in 1277 during the Mongol rule by Sanggye Ön (1250–1296) with the support of Chögyel Phagpas . Its buildings date from the Yuan to Qing Dynasty . In 1326 the Great Chagyima Hall , which is now a listed building, was built under headmaster Orgyen Gönpo ( u rgyan mgon po ), which became the symbol of the Taglung Kagyü School.

In 1731 (the 9th year of the Yongzheng era of Qing Shizong ) the Manchu government appointed a great Living Buddha of the Kagyu School to be Kuutuktu , who was one of the four great Kuutuktus of the Qing Dynasty in Chamdo.

There are three reincarnation systems in total:

  • Jedrung Rinpoche (rje drung rin po che); Chinese Jizhong huofo 吉 仲 活佛
  • Phagchog Rinpoche ('phags mchog rin po che); chinese Paqu huofo 帕 曲 活佛
  • Shabdrung Rinpoche (zhabs drung rin po che); chin. Xiazhong huofo 夏 仲 活佛

One of them is the incarnation line of the Phagchog Rinpoches (or Phakchok Rinpoches):
