Ricard Vives i Ballvé

Ricard Vives i Ballvé (born March 21, 1886 in Barcelona ; † April 6, 1982 ibid) was a Catalan classical pianist and music teacher.

life and work

Vives began playing the piano at the age of eight with Joan Salvat . He later continued his studies with Eusebi Daniel , Antoni Nicolau and, from the age of 16, with Enric Granados . He made his debut with great success with the 3rd Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach in D minor BWV 974. In 1910 he went on a concert tour through all of Spain with the violinist Marià Perelló .

In 1911 he founded the Trio de Barcelona with the aforementioned violinist and the cellist Joaquim Pere Marés . A concert by this trio in 1913 brought an international artistic breakthrough for everyone involved. Vives also accompanied singers like María Barrientos , L. Hallam and H. Gerhard as well as instrumentalists like the violinist Mathieu Crickboom .

He was a member of the Associació de Música de Cambra de Barcelona (Association of Chamber Musicians in Barcelona) and the Lliga d'Associacions Musicals de Catalunya (League of Musical Associations of Catalonia).

From 1908 he directed the higher piano courses at the Barcelona Acadèmia Ainaud and was deputy director of the Acadèmia Granados .
