Riccardo Marchiò

Riccardo Marchiò (born September 17, 1955 in Rome ) is a retired general of the Italian Army . From February 21, 2018 to May 31, 2019, he was Commander-in-Chief of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum .

Military career

Marchiò completed the officer training at the Military Academy in Modena from 1974 to 1976 and then until 1978 the officer training school in Turin . He initially served as a platoon leader and company commander in the 6th Bersaglieri - Battalion Palestro in Turin and took in 1982 with his unit on a foreign assignment in Lebanon part. As a staff officer , he completed general staff courses in Civitavecchia and the United States Army War College , served on the staff of the III. Corps in Milan and with the Land Forces Command (COMFOTER) in Verona as well as battalion and regiment commander with the Bersaglieri and completed missions abroad in Somalia , Albania , Macedonia , Kosovo , Afghanistan and Iraq .

After Marchiò was appointed deputy commander of the mechanized infantry brigade Aosta in Messina in 2003 and then commanded it from 2004 to 2005, he served on the Army General Staff in Rome until 2008. From 2008 to 2012 he was Deputy Commanding General of the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps in Rheindahlen . During his assignments with the Aosta Brigade and the ARRC, he was also Deputy Commander of the Multinational Division South East in Basra, Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. From 2012 to 2014 he was responsible for intelligence affairs at the Office of the Italian Prime Minister .

As Lieutenant General Marchiò commanded the headquarters of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Italy in Milan from November 24, 2014 to September 29, 2016, and the Land Forces Command (COMFOTER-COE) in Rome from October 1, 2016 to February 14, 2018 . On the following February 21, he took over JFC Brunssum from General Salvatore Farina . On May 31, 2019, he gave up this post to the German General Erhard Bühler and went into retirement.
