Richard Blankenburg (born January 18, 1891 in Frankfurt (Oder) , † July 5, 1955 in Rostock ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

After attending middle school, he learned the profession of porcelain painter and worked for several years in the Paetsch porcelain painting company in Frankfurt (Oder). From 1914 he took private lessons in life drawing in Berlin , then from 1915 he was a soldier in the First World War , and also painted during his military service. Blankenburg married in Rostock in 1915, settled here in 1920 and worked for the Reichsbahn because he couldn't find a job as a porcelain painter. In 1942 his apartment was destroyed in a bomb attack. Having become homeless, he and his family found shelter near Teterow . From this time he worked as a freelancer. Since the 1930s he was at art exhibitions in Rostock andSchwerin represented. Blankenburg tried all painting techniques. But his pencil and charcoal drawings, his pastel and tempera pictures remained just sketches, as did most of the watercolors. He created them while traveling, in order to later have a memory aid in his studio. Although his work was not one-sided, he was able to sell, especially his Rostock city views.
