Richard Carpenter (real name: Richard Michael "Kip" Carpenter ; born August 14, 1929 in King's Lynn , Norfolk , England ; † February 26, 2012 in Hertfordshire , England) was a British writer , screenwriter and actor .

Richard Carpenter became famous for his novels about the magician Catweazle , which he adapted for a television series in the early 1970s. He then wrote scripts for numerous other youth series, some of which were based on his own novels as well as on models by other authors, such as Black Beauty , Five Friends , Dick Turpin , Robin Hood , A Fall for the Borger , The Scarlet Pimpernel and I Was a Rat after Philip Pullman .
For the cartoon series Doctor Snuggles he wrote the first six episodes.
He also took on small guest roles in various television series.
