Richard Franklin (director)

Richard Franklin (born July 15, 1948 in Melbourne , Victoria ; † July 11, 2007 there ) was an Australian film director, screenwriter and producer.

Live and act

Richard Franklin was born in Melbourne and grew up in Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne. He began studying at Monash University in Melbourne and worked as a camera assistant for a television film production company. During the 1960s, Franklin was a member of The Pink Finks . In 1967 he went to the United States to study at the University of Southern California . Here he met Alfred Hitchcock , who, at Franklin's instigation, was also teaching a course at the university. He later made the first sequel to Hitchcock's classic Psycho . From the early 1970s, Richard Franklin worked as a director and producer.

Franklin received an AFI Award for his script for the film Hotel Sorrento .
