Richard Grupe

Richard Grupe (born October 8, 1915 in Hamburg , † August 5, 1988 in Los Angeles ) was a German boxer.

Grupe, a trained baker , was a successful heavyweight boxing professional who became vice European champion in 1942. After his boxing career ended in 1952, "King Richard" became a catcher and had lived in the USA since 1960 after he was the only German to receive a contract at Madison Square Garden in New York . He also appeared in smaller supporting roles as a film actor , for example in the 1960 Edgar Wallace film adaptation of The Red Circle as a servant.

His son Norbert was also a boxer.

Grupe died of a stroke in Los Angeles .
