Richard H. Wilhelm

Richard Herman Wilhelm (born January 10, 1909 in New York City , † August 6, 1968 in Center Harbor, New Hampshire ) was an American chemical engineer .

Life

Wilhelm studied at Columbia University in New York, where he received his doctorate with a thesis on chemical engineering . In 1934 he went to Princeton University , where he was assistant professor from 1937 and associate professor from 1943 . In 1946 he became a full professor. During the Second World War he worked at Princeton on defense research projects . Since 1954 he was chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Princeton University. During his professional life he was mainly interested in the construction of chemical reactors , especially fluidized bed reactors and the specific properties of fluidized bed conditions.

In 1964 he was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1968, the year of his death, he was accepted into the National Academy of Engineering . He was a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the American Chemical Society .
